Chemical Exposure Monitoring (CEM) is the process of assessing the presence of airborne chemical vapors, fumes, dust particles, or mists that workers may be exposed to in the workplace. The purpose of Chemical Exposure Monitoring (CEM) is to ensure that employee exposure remains within the Permissible Exposure Limits (PEL) set by law. According to the Occupational Safety and Health (USECHH) Regulations 2000, it is mandatory for employers to carry out Chemical Exposure Monitoring (CEM) using approved monitoring and analysis methods

Who Should Conduct Chemical Exposure Monitoring (CEM)?
Chemical Exposure Monitoring (CEM) must be performed by a Hygiene Technician who is registered and recognized by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Malaysia. This ensures that the CEM process meets regulatory standards and provides reliable results regarding chemical exposure in the workplace
Purpose of Chemical Exposure Monitoring (CEM)
The key objectives of Chemical Exposure Monitoring (CEM) include:
To fulfill legal requirements under the Occupational Safety and Health (USECHH) Regulations 2000 through the implementation of Chemical Exposure Monitoring (CEM)
To assess employee exposure levels to hazardous chemicals via Chemical Exposure Monitoring (CEM) in accordance with Permissible Exposure Limits (PEL) as outlined in Schedule I and Schedule II of the USECHH Regulations
To conclude, through the Chemical Exposure Monitoring (CEM) Report, whether the employee’s personal exposure to hazardous chemicals:
Might have occurred, or
Most likely will occur, or
Did not occur,
and whether the exposure levels comply with or exceed the specified Permissible Exposure Limits (PEL) based on Chemical Exposure Monitoring (CEM) findings
To provide recommendations in the Chemical Exposure Monitoring (CEM) Report based on the monitoring results, including necessary actions employers must take to meet the compliance requirements under the USECHH Regulations 2000
